Meet our February 2025 Caregiver of the Month, Demba SambouNew York State-certified Home Health Aide since November 2017.

He is dedicated, willing to work at any physical location that the Westchester County and New York City teams assign him to, regardless of the distance or specific location, if it is within the scope of his job duties.

He loves helping people, which makes him a great caregiver. Demba will help a stranger in need, expecting nothing in return, a humanitarian for this reason. Coworkers describe Demba as likable and laid-back.

Demba is being hailed as a hero after he tried to save his client’s life using cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills he learned in HHA training school and as a staff member of The Medical Research Council (MRC) Unit in The Gambia. His quick thinking led to the split-second decision to start chest compressions, something he never thought he would get to do in the real world.

Demba was born in The Gambia, a country in West Africa. Demba or “lion” is a significant name in West African cultures, symbolizing strength, courage, and resilience.

He was born on February 18 and shares this special day with his country as it’s the same date The Gambia became independent.

Demba is a former politician, served as Member of Parliament or senator of The National Assembly of The Gambia.

He Enjoys hobbies that are intellectual, social, and focused on making a positive impact, such as: community volunteering, activism, outdoor activities, and joining clubs or groups with a social cause.
