Some caregivers make an impact through skill alone and others do it through heart. Damaris Collins, lovingly known as Dee, does both with grace and joy. Her presence brings comfort, confidence and a sense of calm that clients and families feel immediately.
“I show up every day, ready to help in any way I can” Dee shares. “Caregiving is about being present for people when they need it most.”
Across Long Island, Dee is known as the caregiver who steps in with a smile and a solution, no matter the situation.
A caregiver who says yes with confidence
Dee is a New York State certified Personal Care Aide, who has been caring for others since April 2020 and joined Alvita Care in July 2023. She works exclusively for one company and brings full commitment to every assignment.
“I believe in giving my full energy to the people I work with,” she says. “When you focus your heart in one place, you can really make a difference.”
Born in Costa Rica and fluent in English and Spanish, Dee connects naturally with clients from many backgrounds. Living in Suffolk County and driving her own vehicle allows her to serve clients across Nassau and Suffolk Counties with ease.
Compassion in action every single day
For Dee, each workday begins with intention and care. She balances the practical responsibilities of her role with deep passion for her clients.
“When I arrive, I want my client to feel comfortable and respected right away,” Dee explains. “It is not just about tasks. It is about making them feel seen and cared for.”
Working with hands on care, her focus remains on creating a warm and welcoming environment where clients feel safe and supported.
Inspired by family and a giving heart
Dee describes herself as an altruistic person, guided by empathy and a desire to help without expecting anything in return. Growing up as the youngest of seven sisters, she learned early about the power of selfless care.
“My mother cared for our family with so much love and sacrifice,” Dee says. “Watching her taught me how important it is to care for others with patience and heart.”
Wisdom she shares with fellow caregivers
When offering advice to other caregivers, Dee focuses on kindness and understanding.
“Be patient and listen,” she says. “Sometimes people just want to feel heard and supported, not fixed.”
She believes that thoughtful actions, active listening and appreciation create trust and meaningful connections that ripple outward to families and care teams alike.
