At Alvita Care, we believe exceptional care begins with exceptional people. This month, we are proud to shine the spotlight on Salimata “Sali” Diallo, a dedicated New York State-certified Home Health Aide whose compassion and commitment make a lasting impact on every client she serves.
Meet Sali
Sali is a proud Senegalese-American, born in Senegal — a country in West Africa where the official language is French. She became a certified Home Health Aide on August 9, 2019, and joined the Alvita Care family on March 5, 2022. She currently lives in New York City, home to the largest community of people of Senegalese origin in the United States.
Outside of work, Sali enjoys taking regular walks — a simple activity that offers her countless physical and mental health benefits. These walks lift her mood, reduce stress and anxiety, and help her maintain overall well-being.
A Day in the Life of a Caregiver
Sali’s workdays are as dynamic as they are rewarding. She often receives assignments to work in clients’ homes, with duties that vary based on each client’s needs. This means being adaptable, communicating clearly with families and healthcare teams, and staying ready for the unexpected. As Sali explains, “Flexibility and strong communication are essential to ensuring client safety and well-being.”
Inspired by Family
Sali’s journey into caregiving began with a deeply personal influence — her grandmother. “I was able to witness firsthand the impact of her caregiving to our close-knit family,” she shares. “This experience helped shape my compassion, patience, and empathy.” These qualities have become the foundation of her work, allowing her to provide not only physical assistance but also emotional support and companionship.
Advice to Fellow Caregivers
For Sali, caring for others starts with caring for yourself. “Don’t neglect your own self,” she advises. “Caregiving is physically and emotionally demanding, so sleep well, eat healthy, exercise, and do activities you enjoy.” She believes that when caregivers prioritize their own health, they can give the best of themselves to those they serve.
Why She Chose Caregiving
Sali was drawn to this field for its flexibility and the sense of stability it offers. The ability to balance other commitments while working in a profession with high demand gave her both personal freedom and job security.
Why Alvita Care Stands Out
Having worked with multiple home care agencies, Sali notes that Alvita Care is different. “They provide their caregivers plenty of details about the assignment. The way I see it, 90% of the information is shared upfront, and the remaining 10% is what you personally learn about during the job.” This transparency and preparation empower caregivers to provide the highest level of care from day one.
Pride in the Profession
For Sali, caregiving is not just a job — it is a source of pride. “Everyone has the desire to feel that they’re needed, and caregiving gives that feeling,” she says. “At the end of the day, caregivers can look back and know they made a difference in people’s lives.”
